Common Questions

Frequently Asked

If yours isn't here, just call us.

General

Where do you work? +
Wabash County, Indiana — primarily Wabash, Urbana, North Manchester, Lagro, Roann, Somerset, and the towns in between. For a project that fits, we'll travel up to about an hour from the shop.
Are you licensed and insured? +
Yes — registered contractor with the City of Wabash (#150), fully insured for both liability and worker's comp. We can send certificates of insurance to you or your HOA on request.
How long have you been doing this? +
Bear Creek Homes was formed in 2022, but Clayton's been swinging hammers for neighbors and family in Wabash County for over a decade before that. The shop's new; the work isn't.
How big is your crew? +
Two to four people depending on the job, plus our three regular subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, HVAC). Clayton is on every site every day. There is no project manager you've never met.

Process

What happens after I send a quote request? +
We'll be in touch to set up a free, no-pressure site visit.
Do you charge for the site visit? +
No. The first visit is free — we walk the space, talk options, take measurements and photos, and tell you whether we think we're a fit before either of us has spent a dollar.
How far out are you booked? +
Typically 3–6 months for kitchen and bath remodels, 6–12 months for additions and new builds. Decks and small finish work we can sometimes squeeze in sooner. Call and ask — the calendar moves.

Pricing

What's a typical kitchen, bath, or deck cost? +
Rough starting points: kitchens from ~$55,000, baths from ~$28,000, Trex decks from ~$12,000. Real numbers depend entirely on scope and finishes — we'd rather quote your actual job than promise a number we can't hit.
How do you handle payments? +
Standard schedule: 25% deposit at signing, milestone draws as we hit framing / rough-in / finish, 10% held for final walk-through. Check, ACH, or cash all work — no card processing fees.
What if the budget needs to change mid-project? +
Change orders happen — somebody finds knob-and-tube behind a wall, you decide on different counters. We document them in writing before we do the work, with the new line-item cost. You sign, we proceed. No surprise invoices, ever.

Materials

Can I supply my own materials? +
Appliances and lighting — yes, happy to. Structural lumber, plumbing supply, or anything that's load-bearing or in-wall — no, we use our trusted suppliers. We can't warranty work on materials we didn't spec.
Do you build your own cabinets? +
For kitchen and bath projects we offer both: semi-custom from a regional supplier, or full in-house custom cabinetry built in our shop — typically white oak, maple, or paint-grade poplar. Custom adds 4–6 weeks and 20–35% to the cabinetry line.
What deck materials do you use? +
Trex composite (our default) or cedar / cypress for traditional builds. Pressure-treated framing throughout, hidden fasteners on Trex installs, stainless on cedar. We don't do PT decking — it just doesn't last in this climate.

After We Finish

Do you offer a warranty? +
One year on labor, on top of whatever the manufacturer's warranty is for materials. Doors not closing right after the house settles, a tile cracking, a deck board cupping — call us, we fix it.
Will you come back if something goes wrong? +
Yes. Same number you've always called. We schedule a 1-year follow-up walk for every build, but you don't have to wait that long — if something needs attention, just call.
Will you be in our home unsupervised? +
For interior remodels, yes — we work weekdays and you don't need to be there. We use shoe covers, dust barriers, daily clean-up, and an exterior key lockbox if you're not home. Same crew every day.
